A seminal series from a legendary creator. Dragon Ball, a wry update on the Chinese "Monkey King" myth, introduces us to Son Goku, a young monkey-tailed boy whose quiet life is turned upside-down when he meets Bulma, a girl determined to collect the seven "Dragon Balls." If she gathers them all, an incredibly powerful dragon will appear and grant her one wish. But the precious orbs are scattered all over the world, and to get them she needs the help of a certain super-strong boy...
Goku has made it to the Tenka'ichi Budôkai, the world's #1 martial arts tournament...but even the training of the martial arts master Kame-Sen'nin hasn't prepared him for this! Only seven finalists remain. Will the champion be Goku? His fellow student Kuririn? Yamcha, master of the "Fist of the Wolf Fang"? Fighting woman Ran Fuan? Giran, a rubbery monster who's part dinosaur? Namu, an Indian mystic? Or Jackie Chun, the mysterious old man who may be the toughest fighter of all? There can be only one winner in the wildest, craziest battle ever!

Customer Reviews
Seen the show? This is better.
This book is amazing. It is wonderfully drawn. It is consistantly hilarious and mind-blowingly awesome. Fast-paced and addictive, this is an excellent buy. You won't be able to put it down. These VIZBIG volumes are really convenient. They pack a lot of action into one fabulous deal. And it is so much better and easier to find than the show!
Warning! The Censors Struck Again!
Although I'm an enormous fan of Toriyama, and especially of this series, I'm giving this printing a negative review based solely on VizBigs choice of censoring the small amount of nudity in the series. The censorship of artwork has to be one of the most irritating crimes in society to me.If someone were to purchase this series for a very young child and idiotic enough to not realize the adult nature of the content then that's their problem for not taking an interest in what their kids are viewing.I wish companies wouldn't ruin stuff for those of us who apreciate the beauty and humor of an artist like Toriyama simply because of some outmoded sense of morality that doesn't even make sense. The violence and nudity I'd seen over the years as I grew up certainly hasn't subverted my mind.Anyway I was looking forward to replacing my old DB mangas from viz with these nice big editions but I guess I'll have to hang onto them after all.Anyone who's just started picking up these editions who's a purist like me might want to hunt down the smaller editions first put out by viz graphics that don't have the censored content.Shame on your cowering to purile right-wing moralist jerks, viz editoral staff!
A great manga series
I am a huge dragonball fan. I have recently wished to expand my horizons by adding the original manga to the long list of anime, videogames, and other products. This did not disapoint, its like reading a great TV show, sure some of the names are in Japanese, but its just so funny and well written. My only complaint is that its just not the original manga, not how it was supposed to be read. While this is a much better deal, the shoen jump contimplations look better. All in all this is my favorite manga, and this edition only strengthens my admiration of the series.
