"...Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish."
"But the Lord provided a great fish to swallow Jonah,
and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights."
"From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. He said: 'In my
distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From the depths
of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry.'"

- Astronomy    I have always enjoyed gazing at the stars on a clear, dark night.
How can anyone not believe in the existence of God after witnessing such an awesome display?

Quotes for Gardeners
"Then God said, 'Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing
plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it,
according to their various kinds.' And it was so."
"Many times I struck your gardens and vineyards, I struck
them with blight and mildew. Locusts devoured your fig and
olive trees, yet you have not returned to me," declares the Lord.
"'Come now, let us reason together,' says the Lord. 'Though your sins
are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are
red as crimson, they shall be like wool. If you are willing
and obedient, you will eat the best from the land; but
if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the
sword.' For the mouth of the Lord has spoken."
Isaiah 1:18 - 20
"The senseless man does not know, fools do not understand, that
though the wicked spring up like grass
and all evildoers
flourish, they will be forever destroyed."
Psalm 92:6 - 7
"But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in
him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its
roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its
leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year
of drought and never fails to bear fruit."
Jeremiah 17:7 - 8

"The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs
in a sun-scorched land and will
strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden, like a
spring whose waters never fail."
"Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and
break up your unplowed ground;
for it is time to seek the Lord,
until he comes and showers righteousness on you."
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him,
he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can
"Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew,
like showers on new grass,
like abundant rain on tender plants."
"For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable,
through the living and enduring word of
God. All men are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers
and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever."
1 Peter 1:23 - 25

"Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do
wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green
plants they will soon die away. Trust in the Lord and
do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give
you the desires of your heart."
Psalm 37:1 - 4
"Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though
there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet
I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior."
Habakkuk 3:17 - 18

or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of
his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he
meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted
by streams of water, which yields its fruit in
season and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers."
Psalm 1:1 - 3
- Baseball    Even though I don't always like to admit it, I am a big fan of the Boston Red Sox. I have been waiting all my life for them to win the World Series. Then in 2004, it finally happened. The Red Sox became world champions by beating the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series!
Babe Ruth might have become the greatest player Boston would ever have, if not for what Red Sox fans could point to as the single worst event ever to occur in the team's history, in 1917. That year the team was purchased by one H. Harrison Frazee, a theatrical producer who loved baseball but loved Broadway more. He saw the Red Sox as a means of financing his theatrical
operations, and began selling off all of his best players to Colonel Jacob Ruppert, owner of the New York Yankees, to raise cash for a number of Broadway ventures. Babe Ruth became victim to this practice in 1920, when Frazee sold him to Ruppert for $125,000.
The Red Sox were devastated from the loss of Babe Ruth. They had won five of the first fifteen World Series, but would not even play in another for 28 years! Before 2004, they had not won a World Series since 1918.
Thanks to the Babe Ruth Museum for the information on Babe Ruth
"Do you know that in a race all the runners run, but only
one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone
who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get
a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."
1 Corinthians 9:24 - 25
"I have fought the good fight,
I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that
day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."

"Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it,
not only when their eye is on you
and to win their favor,
but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord."
"Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to
please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them,
but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way
they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive."
