additional change I had noted, was that the air scoops, used for lateral
control, on the side of the
wings were in fact disabled and were retained in place with leather straps. The plane, as
operated, had only rudder and elevator control. By this
stage of the proceedings, the material used to cover the wings was thoroughly soaked and it was billowing in the wind.
