Shivopadesha 1

Ekam jinaman nityamadyantashaunyam

Nanyat kimcit varttate vastusatyam;

Tayoreabhedo smimn indriyophadina vae

Jinanasyanam bhasate nanyathaeva.

 

[ One eternal knowledge without beginning or end-there is no other supreme truth. And when the upahdhi(special powers) of the organ's vibration is suspended causing the internal and the external world  become fused into one, only the Supreme knowledge exists that is of the One Entity.]

Shivopadesha 2

 

Atmajinam vidurjinam jinananyanyani yani tu.

Tani jinanavabhasani sarasya naevea bodhanat.

 

[Self knowledge is the real knowledge-all other knowledge is a mere shadow of knowledge;and will not lead to the realization of the truth]

 Shivopadesha 3

 

Na muktirtapanadhomadupavasaashataerapi;

Brahmaevahamiti jinatva mukto bhavati dehabhrt.

 

[Liberation is not attained by fasting, penance and sacrificial rituals. Living beings attain liberation when they realize, "I am BRAHMA"]

Shivopadesha 4

Na muktih shastravavyakkhyane na muktirvidhipujane;

Kevalam Brahmanishto yah sah mukto natra samshayah

 

[Salvation cannot be attained by merely interpreting the scriptures , nor by worshipping the deities according to specific scriptural injunctions;

One can obtain salvation only by surrendering oneself to Brahma -there is no doubt in that]

Shivopadesha 5

 

Ysabhavat yadhbavati yadeva bhavyamasti;

Tesam vilaksano saksii cinmatro ham Sadhashivah.

 

[Whatever that has been created in the past is in existence in present, or will be created in the future.

I, Sadhashiva is the sole cognition , am the supreme witness of all, having the opposite characteristics of all.]

Shivopadesha 6

Manasa kalpita murtith nranam cenmoksasadhanii;

Svapnalabdhena rajanah manavastatha.

 

              [  If an idol produced out of human imagination can bring about salvation,

                          Then can a person , by creating a kingdom in his dreams , become king in real sense? ]

{Mind is the cause of human bondage and liberation; Bondage means attachment to objects

                     and liberation means freedom from attachments.}    

  * * * 

{It is mind which works and mind which sins- For the mind which is immersed in the thought

      of God there is no virtue, no vice }

Shivopadesha 7

Mrcchiladhatudarvadimurttaviishvarobuddhayo;

Klishyantastapasah jinanam vina moksam na yanti te.

 

[ Those who think that Parama Purusa is confined within idols made of clay, stone, metal or wood,

Are simply torturing their bodies with penances- they will surely not attain salvation without self-knowledge ]

Shivopadesha 8

Jagratsvapnasusuptyadi caentanyam yad prakashde;

Tad Bearmahamiiti jinatva sarvavandhaerh pramuchyate.

 

[ The three state of wakefulness, dream and sleep are expressed by the Supreme Consciousness-

One who realizes That is Brahma, is liberated from all bondages ]

Shivopadesha 9

Atmajinaminamidam Devi param moksaekasadhanam;

Sukrtyaermanavo bhutva jinanisenmokshamapyunat.

 

[ Self knowledge, Parvatii is the greatest means to attain salvation.

People are born as human beings  due to their good past samskaras, but to attain self qualified liberation they will have to attain self knowledge.

Shivopadesha 10

Atmashtiam Shivam tyaktva vahishtvam yah samarchayet,

Hastastham pindamutsrjya brahmate jivitashaya.

-         Shiva Samhita

 

[ One who looks for Shiva in the external world, ignoring Shiva in the internal world,

Is like one who throws away the rice that is in one's hand and wanders from door to door in search of one's livelihood ]

Shivopadesha 11

Idam tiirthamidam tiirtham brahmanti tamash janah;

Atmathirtham na jayananti katham moksha baranane.

 

[ Here is one pilgrimage, there is another place. People of static nature wander to place to the other place.

But without finding the real place of pilgrimage within their own hearts, how can they attain salvation? }

Shivopadesha 12

Mayyava sakalam jatam mayi sarvam pratisthitam;

Mayi sarvam layam lati tad Brahmadvayamasmyaham.

 

[ Everything is born out of Me, everything is maintained in Me;

Everything finally merges in Me; I am the BRAHMA - One without a second. ]
