Bono, Furnari and two other lawyers at the firm were involved in an insurance fraud scheme. Bono turned state's evidence against the other three. At the same time, Furnari decided to kill himself. However in order for his family to collect the 2 million dollar life insurance on him, he had to make his death appear accidental. Subsequently, he learned that his wife was having an affair with Bono. They argued at Emilio's Trattoria. In front of the restaurant, an infuriated Furnari threw himself backwards into on coming traffic and was hit by a car driven by Jake Straka.
The DA's office charged Jake with wreckless driving and assault initially. Furnari's wife witnessed the accident and informed police that Jake was using a cell phone at the time of the accident. (Actually, Jake had just finished speaking on the cellular and dropped the phone. Jake glanced down at the phone and looked up in time to see Furnari back into the street and make contact with the windshield..~~Milz)When Furnari died of his injuries, Jake was charged with vehicular homicide, because of the DA's political ambition to make cellular phone use illegal while driving. In the meantime, a civil suit was file against F & A because Jake was on F & A business (delivering a document) at the time of the accident. With some information provided by Stu Bynum, Jake's law school friend, the truth came out. Jake was absolved of culpability in the accident. ["Feeding Frenzy"]
Bruce Bono has season tickets to the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team and has the seats behind Jake["Feeding Frenzy"]
