Grace Presbyterian Church

Millbrook, Ontario

In 1812, John Dyell came from Ireland, built a grist mill by a brook and thus laid the foundation for the town of Millbrook.   The town, southwest of Peterborough, Ontario, grew steadily and developed a cultural setting for the residents.   In fact, in 1875 Millbrook organized the Light Cavalry Band, one of the first mounted bands in Canada.

The original church building burnt down.   The plans for the new church were decided upon after parishioners viewed the Presbyterian church in Fenelon Falls.   In 1896, the cornerstone was laid and inside is sealed the history on the congregation.   This impressive church building, with its Italianate mullions and its elaborate brick pattern, was constructed in 4½ months for under $4,000 and was officially opened on January 17, 1897.   The name was changed from Millbrook Presbyterian to Grace Presbyterian in 1915.
