| The first question that everyone asks us is: "So when will you go to China?" followed by "Why do you have to wait so long?" So, we decided to include a general timeline page to inform everyone a little about the process and why it takes so long. |
| The first phase of the process is called the "Paper Chase" This portion, on average takes 3 months. (We are hoping for less than 2) During this time, we are collecting a ton of certificates, reference letters, bank statements, employment verifications, fingerprints, local and national criminal clearances, medical forms etc. |
| While we are still paperchasing we can begin the Home Study This can take a month or two The homestudy for China adoption includes four visits with a Social Worker. One of the visits will be in our home and we will both be interviewed. Two of the others will be individual interviews. We are also required to read three books, which part of the home study is based on. The Social Worker will then make a decision whether or not to recommend us to China as parents to a Chinese baby. The Social Worker then writes up a report to China, and sends it to us. |
| Dossier to China We put the completed home study report, with all of the other items we have collected, and get everything notarized. After it is notarized the entire packet, called a "Dossier", goes to Sacramento where each page has to be "Authenticated". When that is complete, we sent the Dossier to our Agency, and then they sent it to China. Once in China, the entire dossier has to be translated and then "Logged in" with the China Center for Adoption Affairs (CCAA). Then we begin the Wait! |
| Referral Nine to ten months after our "Log In" date, we will receive a "Referral" from CCAA. This will have our daughters picture, her medical info, a little about her personality and where she is now. Once we receive this, we sign it and return it to China, accepting the referral. |

| Travel to China Five to Seven weeks after we accept our referral, we will be traveling to China to pick up our daughter. We will be in China for about two weeks finalizing the adoption and her citizenship. After that we will bring her home to meet all of you! |
