Welding

Oxy - Acetylene welding is my chosen favourite, although the advice contained here would be equally suitable for MIG or Arc also

TYPES OF JOINTS
Butt welded joint
Overlapped joint
Joddled joint

The Joddled Joint
The Joddler is the tool with the blue handles.
These are two panels prepared to form a joddled joint. One panel is left flat the other has had  bent under seam formed down the line of the joint. Remember, for it to look right especially when you are using a pre-formed ppanel the joddle needs to be hidden underneath.
I always use a powerful magnet(s)  to hold the two panels together. This is fine with gas welding but remember that with Arc welding the rod will become magnetised and want to stick to the metal. It can still be done this way but you need p[ractice to stop getting it fuse to the weld. In the picture you can easily see the actual joddlegoing under the flat panel.
See what a nice seam you get, though I would expect to use almost no filler rod in a joint like this one. In fact if it is bronze welded, it is almost ready for the refinishing process.
