m.v."Adroity"

"m.v.'Adroity'
...was a Products Tanker, built in to the orders of a Dutch Captain who carried his son as Mate, his wife as Cook, his daughter-in-law as Engineer, and another son and daughter as crew.

They sailed all over the world and spent a good few years in the Caribbean. While I was on her we were sailing around the British Isles and Ireland, with frequent visits to the European Continent.

However, I have recently been advised:- "that this ship is included in a book about the Everard fleet and it states that she was built in 1947 by Gebr. van der Werf at Deest, Holland for the Finland South America Line, Helsinki, under the simple name T.3. I guess that she was maybe a bunkering tanker for this deep-sea line. Everard bought her in 1953 and she was broken up at Colchester in May 1969."

As the information given at the beginning was related to me by the Captain quoted, and I saw pictures taken of it that he had, I will need to make some further investigations about this one, as to when he actually owned it.

I sailed on her from October 1960 until January 1961

She was unusual in that every room and cabin opened out to the deck, without any internal alleyways at all. This meant the actual cabins could be bigger. Although, in bad weather rather wetter too. Each time you opened the door, you could flood your bed!

After leaving the "Adroity", and before joining the "Candourity", I spent a very short time on the "Aptity" but I have no pictures of that ship.
