Phillies vs. Mets- September 11, 1980

While not quite as dominating as Marty Bystrom, Dick Ruthven got the job done. He went eight innings, giving up just one run on eight hits, and earned his 15th win of the season as the Phillies beat the Mets 5-1, to complete their second two-game sweep in a row. The Phils only had two hits on the day, but made the most of them. Leading 2-1 going into the ninth, the Phils scored three off of Mets pitcher Juan Berenguer to cement the victory. Mike Schmidt put the Phils up 1-0 in the fourth with his 38th home run of the campaign, and Pete Rose knocked in two runs with Bake McBride and Del Unser driving in one each. Orlando Isales, who got a cup of coffee with the Phils in 1980, made his major league debut.

  • Phils' Record: 76-63
  • Place: 2nd Place, ½ game behind Montreal.
