Phillies vs. Houston- July 28, 1980

The Jekyll-and-Hyde offense took off another game, as the Phils could only muster four hits off of Houston starter Gordie Pladson, who sported a 6.00 ERA going into the game. The lethargic Phils attack wasted a decent effort from starter Nino Espinosa, who gave up two runs over 6-1/3 innings before leaving in favor of Tug McGraw in the seventh inning. Ron Reed gave up a run in the 10th inning, giving up a two-out walk to Jose Cruz, and followed that up by serving a triple to Cesar Cedeno to score the winning run. The Phils managed only five hits for the night, two by Bake McBride, and one each by Manny Trillo, Larry Bowa and Keith Moreland.

  • Phils' Record: 50-46
  • Place: 3rd Place, 5 games behind Pittsburgh.
