Phillies vs. San Francisco- June 22, 1980

Who better to stop a losing streak than your ace? The Phils came into the series finale against the Giants limping along to a three-game losing streat. Step in Steve Carlton, who gave up one three-run inning and nothing more against the Giants. Even so, the Giants led into the eighth inning until Mike Schmidt tripled in Lonnie Smith with the tying run, and Luzinski followed with the sacrifice fly to knock in what proved to be the winning run. Carlton pitched a complete game, earning his thirteenth win while giving up eight hits and three runs, all in the Giants' fourth inning.

  • Phils' Record: 34-27
  • Place: 2nd Place, 1 game behind Montreal.
