Phillies vs. San Diego- June 14, 1980

On this Flag Day, it was the trio of Carlton, Luzinski and Schmidt. Steve Carlton overpowered the Padres for eight innings, striking out 13 hapless batters. Luzinski and Schmidt provided the power, Luzinski hitting a 2-run homer (his 15th) in the third inning, and Schmidt launching a solo shot in the 5th. Carlton picked up his 11th win, while Tug McGraw picked up an easy 5th save, retiring the Padres in order in the ninth inning. With the win, the Phils picked up a game on Montreal and Pittsburgh, inching to within three games of first place.
