Phillies vs. San Francisco- June 9, 1980

For the second day in the row, the Phils' lackluster offense squandered a good pitching performance. The victim of the team's lack of support this time was ace Steve Carlton, who got a no-decision even giving up zero runs in six innings of work. The Phils actually received 9 hits and six walks, but left 14 runners on base. The Phils held a slim 1-0 lead under Carlton, but reliever Dickie Noles served a fat pitch to Jack Clark, who hit his 10th home run of the season to earn the win for the Giants, giving Noles his third loss of the season.

  • Phils' Record: 26-23
  • Place: 3rd place, 2½ games behind Montreal.
