One of the true pitching gems of the season for the Phillies, as Steve Carlton pitched a one-hitter to shutout the St. Louis Cardinals 7-0 at Veterans Stadium. The only hit for St. Louis was a 2nd inning single by catcher Ted Simmons. Garry Maddox, Bob Boone and Del Unser (as a pinch hitter) each had two runs batted in for the Phillies, Boonie's on his first home run of the season.
