That time I was crippled

I like the quietness of my hospital ward

though all my inmates complained of the boredom

and were yearning to go home

Not I

I miss the the physical immobility

The absence of TV and the undisturbed quietness

the free time to copy from this little book 'Think Big'

and record what went on in front of my eyes everyday here

on this pile of compo exam paper that was handed in with my students' writings

I found my life more enriched

my soul more nourished

by the experience of the fisherman, the workers, the van drivers who

for one reason or another sent here

Now I am out and up and about

I am more immobile inside

my TV is now on 24 hrs a day

and my soul crippled once again.
