Wildflowers
Rare wildflowers grow near the vernal pool. These include Boggs Lake Hedge-Hyssop, Bolander's Horkelia, three types of Downingia, as many as seven types of Navarretia (I've only spotted three so far) and Lobb's Aquatic Buttercup. The  best wildflower observations can be made from late March through early July. Not all wildflowers are large and showy. Be prepared  to do a little "Belly Botany." Get down on your hands and knees with a magnifying glass and explore the world of the miniature.
To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour.
