License Verification
License verification is proof of existing nurse licensure. Nurses need
license verification when applying for licenses in additional states or
jurisdictions. Employers should, and are sometimes required to verify licensure
of a nurse prior and/or during employment.

Nursys™ (Nurse System) is a computer system that contains nurse license and license discipline information that is provided by boards of nursing in the United States and its territories. Nursys™ receives regular updates of nurses’ personal (name, address, etc.) and license information from participating boards of nursing. All boards of nursing, including non-participating boards, have access to information within Nursys™, and are able to enter and edit discipline information.

The purpose of Nursys™ is to provide centralized license information to boards of nursing that use it in the following ways:
To verify applicant license information.
To enter and review disciplinary actions.
To send electronic communications between boards of nursing for information
requests.
NCSBN provides the public access to Nursys for the purposes of licensure
verification:
The Nursys License Verification Form is designed for nurses who are required to provide license verification for a board of nursing. An online application is available to fulfill the verification request. A mail-in form is also available for download.
Nursys™ Licensure QuickConfirm provides online nurse license verification to employers and others. Users can purchase detailed verification reports for multiple licenses at one time.

Nursys™ contains personal, licensure, education, verification, and discipline
information supplied solely by boards of nursing.

Some states restrict information that may be accessed by others. Nursys™
complies with each state's requirements.
