Columbia/HCA Hospitals

Which hospitals are HCA/Columbia hospitals?
Know of any that aren't on the list?
And a little interesting reading below...

  1. List of Columbia/HCA hospitals
  2. Westside Regional Medical Center... Plantation Florida
  3. Methodist System ... San Antonio Texas is affiliated with Columbia/HCA.
  4. Columbia/HCA is also known as HealthOne
  5. HCA-The Healthcare Company, formerly known as Columbia/HCA is the largest for-profit hospital chain in the United States.
  6. HCA is composed of locally managed facilities that include approximately 200 hospitals and 70 outpatient surgery centers in 24 states, England and Switzerland.
  7. In February 1994, HCA merged with Columbia, which had acquired Galen Health Care (formerly Humana) in September 1993. The new company then acquired Medical Care America and several other healthcare businesses, quickly building a comprehensive healthcare network. At its peak, the $20 billion company had approximately 285,000 employees, more than 350 hospitals, 145 outpatient surgery centers, 550 home care agencies and several other ancillary businesses.
  8. In December 2000 it was ordered to pay more than $840 million in criminal fines, civil penalties and damages for alleged unlawful billing practices.
  9. July 2001, A year after taking a US$498 million charge to help settle federal fraud allegations, HCA Inc.'s turnaround continued as the nation's largest for-profit hospital chain, posted second-quarter net income of US$263 million, beating Wall Street's expectations. The company has paid US$95.3 million in criminal fines but has not yet paid the US$745 million in civil penalties.
  10. All About Staffing (AAS) is an agency owned and operated by HCA Columbia which sole purpose is to staff HCA hospitals. They dictate rates to the agencies they subcontract to. In some areas they do have a fifty mile rule but not in all areas. They do this to encourage "local nurses" to work directly for them.
  11. Read about how this has affected nurses, staffing and salaries at the Cleveland Clinic.Cleveland Clinic
  12. IASIS was created by a bunch of VP's from HCA/Columbia who broke off and are buying hospitals (long term care facilities?).
  13. Read more at Delphi in this very interesting discussion. And another discussion regarding AAS. And yet Another about AAS
Please, look very carefully at these articles before accepting an assignment either with AAS or at an HCA/Columbia hospital. There is a strong suggestion to NOT accept jobs with any hospital that is HCA/Columbia owner or who contracts with AAS. Please do a search on Delphi for AAS and/or HCA for more information. This is very important for travel nurses as contracts are being canceled once AAS enters the scene, and it seems that HCA/Columbia hospitals are trying to break the backs of any other travel company with their monopolistic tactics. Not to mention the very low wages they are not offering travelers!
