Achatina fulica:  The East African Giant Land Snail
Size:
Up to 20 cm, usually 12-15cm.  Most growth is complete at 5-6 months, but snail will continue to grow up to 1.5 years.

Shell:

Generally brown in colour with irregular streaks running transversely across an average of 6.5 whorls.  Stripes can be yellowish or greenish.  Generally conical in shape.

Body:
Greyish with paler underside.

Origin:
East Africa: Kenya, Tanzania

Lifespan:
Up to 10 years, usually 5-7

Egg Size:
5mm

Number of eggs:
min 40, max 500, avg 100

Hatching:
Two weeks after laying. 5-6 clutches per year.  Hatching viability about 90%.

Notes:
May need more moisture than other species.  This is the most common species found in captivity.  Generally speaking, any shop carrying GALS will most likely be carrying the East African fulica.
