HIP HOP CLOTHING TAKING CUES FROM GILLIGAN'S ISLAND
NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- Men who want to look fashionable had better start watching reruns of "Gilligan's Island". According to the National Association of Men's Sportswear Buyers, one of the hottest new looks for men this Summer will be a soft, collapsible hat similar to the white one worn by Gilligan -- except in color. Association president Jack Herschlag says "Gilligan's Island" is also making ripples in women's fashion and many hip- hop ladies are now tying their shirts up above their belly buttons, just like Mary-Ann. . . .

Gilligan's Island premiered in September of 1964 and lasted three seasons, producing 36 black-and-white episodes and 62 color installments. An animated cartoon version,
The New Adventures of Gilligan was televised from 1974-1977, and another, Gilligan's Planet, was launched in 1982.
There were also three TV-movie sequels: Rescue From Gilligan’s Island (1978) where the seven castaways were finally rescued only to be caught in another freak storm during a reunion cruise and stranded on the same island.
The Castaways on Gilligan's Island (1979), where they converted the island into a tourist resort.
And The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island, (1981) which had famed basketball hot-dogers dropping by.
One of television's greatest bits of trivia is Gilligan's first name.
It was never revealed on the show, but year’s later Bob Denver announced on a talk show that the creators had said Gilligan's first name was "Willie."
