The Dodge Omni is an impresive vehicle for what it is. Light weight, cheap and lined up with the usual 2.2 Carb the Omni packs alot of punch. It was designed to combat the small compact imports that had made its way to America, and combat it did. The Omni ruled the roads leading to the end of the big muscle car age and kept on going until 1990. On its way the Omni lead to the development of the Rampage, 1980's Charger, K-car and the Omni's successer- the Dodge Shadow.
The Omni and it's couter part the Horizon were also made in anouther form, a sleeker sportyer form the was called the Omni 024 and Horizon TC3. These two cars than turned into the Dodge Charger (024) and Plymouth Turismo (TC3). After the great Carroll Shelby joined Dodge in the early 80's he took a particular liking toward the Omni and Charger. With this he made his own custom models. The Shelby Dodge Omni and Charger were paired with Turbo engines and performance parts, giving them, even today, very impresive handling, acceleration, speed and extremly high performance that could eat any mustang and swallow it whole. That is Mopar and Shelby Dodge performance.
