8/29/2004  Torture in New York

Yesterday a friend and co-worker was working all morning via her cell phone, to get a friend of hers out of central lock up in NYC. He was one of the leaders of the critical mass bike protest Friday. They arrested over 200 people. He was kept isolated (for his leadership role) and had water and food withheld from him for at least 16 hours. Also, he suffered chemical burns (not severe, but still painful) that were not treated. It wasn't until my friend called the legal defense team for the protesters five times and employed others in NYC to try to get a lawyer in to see him that he was seen by a medic. Torture and abuse are alive and well in this country as well. This is not uncommon during protests like this. There were many instances of this sort of thing during the WTO protests in Seattle and Philly and the IMF protest in DC.

"The charge on which he was held: Endangering Vehicular Traffic.” (According to Chris Rose, Columnist for the New Orleans based Times Picayune)

Violence is indeed on the horizon. Unfortunately, it will marginalize the protests and be seen not a insane crack down by the RNC and Bloomberg, (as with the DNC and Daly in 1968) but as a small part of America that does not understand the issues. The New York Times and the Picayune reported that the protests are having a negative effect on the Demos (how they can tell, who knows, but people believe it.) As history proved, the '68 convention did have a negative effect on the Dems, but as the roles have reversed and the GOP is now the oppressing party, the White House's chief spin-doctor Carl Rove is pushing to link the protesters and the Democratic Party. (In recent statements he as well as other "advisors" to the president have indeed made blanket statements on how the radical protesters are funded and controlled by the Dems.)

In 2000, I predicted that Bush would live up to the Native American curse that said that every president elected on a year ending in 0 would be assassinated. Although I don't wish that by any means, nor imply that I think it would help matters, I was sure that some wack-nut would try it. So far... nothing. But his reign is not over yet. All I hope for is that those on that mission (if they do exist) to think about the consequences. Cheney would take the reigns officially, and definitely be re-elected. God help us all.

Anyhow, that's all she wrote for now. My Internet's down at home until I get an hour to do some phone line re wiring. Just what I love to do, splice microscopic wires while laying and crouching in uncomfortable positions, occasionally being zapped by the little bastards. Hopefully I can do it tomorrow.

Until next time, this Captain Psycho Pants signing off... To the end of the Stupidverse and Beyond!
