Post questions and stuff onThe MUSHing Forum and I and other vistors to the site will answer. Well, first of all, a MUSH is a Multi User Shared Hallucination. In other words, a MUSH is an online text based game, where you create a character, and pretend you are him/her/it. Just like when you were a kid and played Cowboys and Indians, or Spacemen, or whatever. So, MUSHers are those who play on MUSHes. And whats this about RPing? RPing is short for Role Playing. Sticking yourself in the role of your character, and playing with other people. Depending on the MUSH, you can go fight Stormtroopers, crash the Enterprise into the sun, hang out in a bar, go fishing, look for white men to scalp, or whatever comes up. So how do I RP? You RP by telling the rest what you're doing and saying at a specific time, or posing. Most of the time, the more detail, the better, so that people can get a picture of whats going on in their heads. For example, if I am with a guy named Bob
who has just offered me an apple, I could type something like this: Or if I wanted, I could just hit: How about (gasp)Rules? Yeah, just like in real life, there are rules. These depend mostly on the specific MUSH, and can normally be found by hitting news or rules or +help or something similar. They basically come down to, listen to the admin(judges and wizard, the guys who run the joint), only pose things that your character would do and know about, and when in doubt, ask the admin. Allright, I'm tired of reading this, how do I start? Don't get impatient on me! But fine. If you really want to get to the action, use the Windows 95 included telnet program, called telnet.exe (you can use the search box thingy to find it. It should be somewhere in the Windows directory). Once you've got that up, go into terminal, then preferences. You'll want to click on local echo, and probably put the buffer size up. The local echo means you can see what you are typing, and the buffer lets you scroll up farther into the past. Once you've got that. click on connect, and then remote system. Then you'll have to enter the address of the MUSH, and its port in the proper boxes(Find an address of one from The MUSH List). Hit connect, and you're started. The intro to the MUSH will appear after a bit, and then you'll have to log in, typing connect guest, or some such. You'll probably hate using telnet.exe after a few minutes. Don't worry! There are programs made especially for MUSHes, which are a lot more fun to deal with. Get them at the MUSH Software page. Get a friend into MUSHing, tell them about this page.
