My Church is established by Jesus Christ Himself on Pentecost day circa 27 C.E. (Common Era).
My Church has persevered and continued unbroken since then.
The Head of my Church is Jesus Christ and His visible vicar on earth is the Pope, at present Pope John Paul II.
My Church is the Roman Catholic Church.
Meaning of church
The word church is a translation from the Greek ekklesia which means an assembly of people called forth. The root word is ek-kalein which means to call out of.
Body of Christ
Christ is the head of the body, the church. (Col.1:18) The Church is the Body of Christ with Christ as her head.
We are the Church
You are Christ's body. (1 Cor 12:27). We, believers are the Body of Christ, the Church. We are the Church.
Instituted by Christ
You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. (Mt 16:18) Christ founded the Church on Peter the rock. Peter's successors are the Popes through the centuries.
The Church is not only an assembly of the new People of God, it is also visible as in a institutional body with a hierarchical organisation. The leaders have the power of "whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Mt 18:18)
Physical membership can be seen through this example (Mt 18:17), "If
the member refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church and if the
offender refuses to listen even to the church, let such a one be to you
as a Gentile and a tax collector."
