The Maiden Aspect

The first aspect of the Triple Goddess is the Maiden, sometimes called the Virgin or Huntress. She is spring, the fresh beginning of all things. The Maiden is the continuation of all life, the repeating of endless cycles of birth and rebirth, both of the body and of the spirit. She is the dawn, eternal youth, enchantment and seduction, the waxing Moon. Traditionally, Her color is white, denoting innocence and newness.

Although the Maiden is normally associated with youth, we can experience Her at any point in our lives, both male and female. Within the mind we have the ability to experience all aspects of the Goddess whenever we chose. By studying  and mediating upon the Triple Goddess, it is possible to bring life back into balance, back to the rhythm of Nature, back to sanity and wholeness.

Through the Maiden aspect we learn to see the beauty in all things, the budding strength of natural magick at work in all creation.  She is the mental ability to find delight in a butterfly winding its way through a patch of sunlight, the slow rise and fall of a wave on a beach of brilliant sand.

She can be the Creatress of new ideas and new beginnings, but as the other phases of the Goddess subtly blend into each other, so does the Maiden blend in with the Mother and the Crone, completing the cycle. She has attributes that can seem frightening, as in Her form as the Huntress and Mistress of the Woodlands, although she abhors senseless destruction. She is the armed keeper of the Mother's universal laws, a swift messenger from the divine source of life. She can deal out punishment to offenders of those laws, not blindly, but dispassionately as a guardian of balance.

She is known in many forms and variations around the world. She is an essential part of the cycle, yet She is unique in Herself. Her empathy for all creatures, curiosity, determination, and capability of achieving are the qualities that are vital to human happiness and development.

Spring is the Maiden's part of the year, the waxing Moon, Her monthly time of power, Imbolc and Spring Equinox, Her Pagan festivals. The use of the Maiden's power does not depend upon your actual belief in a Goddess. You may see this aspect of the Divine as a subconscious and collective unconscious archetype that has nothing to do with a deity. If one believes in the tremendous untapped power of the subconscious mind, one can see clearly how the use of this energy is unaffected by the belief in a particular deity. If, however, one does believe in the Goddess as deity and feels even the smallest amount of Her awesome power, then practice has shown that the manifestation of desire is more likely to be full and true. Perhaps this is because there is no doubt in the mind of the person calling upon this power.
