The Accepted methods of colouring Black & White photographs have until now been both time consuming and expensive, as well as  limiting in what can actually be achieved by the adding of dyes and colours. The Method developed by Century Imaging doesn't rely on modifying or adding anything to an original image. Black & White images already contain enough basic information to produce a coloured version, this information is found in tonal values e.g. Black, Grey, White etc.
All colours share a basic source, what are called the Subtractive primaries ; Yellow, Magenta and Cyan. Using combinations of these colours it possible to recreate any colour found in the colour spectrum
As part of the colouring process, images are first restored and enhanced. Information and detail that has been lost or perhaps was never visible in the original can usually be found during this primary restoration. Just the basic cleaning and restoring of an old and damaged photograph will make a great difference.
To compare an original B&W image with a restored colour version shows just how much more interesting the finished image becomes. As well as giving a greater sense of atmosphere so often lost in older pictures that have become faded and damaged with time.
As the process relies on a digital copy of the original photograph, no harm can come to a unique and irreplaceable original. Further work can also be carried out such as; image manipulation ( adding, removing detail/figures etc. ), design ( adding text, borders, composite images etc. )
