1984 - Present After the breakup of The Tickets in '83, I switched gears and went a totally new direction. I was burnt out on trying to make it as a musician and finally decided to call it quits. To deal with my frustration and disappointment with this reality, I began writing a novel, which was a new experience to say the least. In the meantime, I had been working at a photo store in Manhattan and in '85 I was asked by a professional photographer if I'd be interested in becoming his photo assistant. I said yes, quit my job at the photo store and became a photo assistant at a very successful commercial studio (Jim Stratos Studio) After a year or so of assisting and learning the trade, I went solo and became a self-employed pro photographer with my own studio in lower Manhattan. By 1987, I was tired of New York City and the rat race, so I returned to Ohio in September. I spent six weeks in Portsmouth and then decided to move to Columbus. "You can't go home again..." -Truer words were never spoken! Since then, a lot has happened to change my life. After several years as a photographer in Columbus, I got married to Marilyn in 1990. (by far, the smartest move I've made in my whole life!) In 1995, I returned to college full time, got a B.A. in Visual Art and earned secondary teaching certification. I started teaching art (photography and computer graphics) at Upper Arlington High School in 1997 and since then have earned my Master's in Photography. I love teaching and feel that it is my true calling. I'm very happy where I am, who I am and what I am. Music was a huge slice of my life and I'll never regret those years I spent pursuing it. But what I'm doing now is much more rewarding and certainly as challenging. At least I haven't sold out completely - I've only become a different kind of artist and I'm loving every minute of it! After all of this time away from music I decided to enter that art form again, but this time sort of vicariously. I dug out my old tapes and began remixing them to digital. The Retros entire 33 song CD set (Retrospective, Volumes 1 and 2) are completed and available here. I've also released a CD by the Tickets called Local Heroes and it is available here. Finally, my solo CD, Uno Mono Solo, is available here. Since resurrecting my bands' and solo music, I've pursued my newest challenge: writing. I have two published novels, Katherine's Prophecy and The May Day Murders published. Details on these books as well as a link to my free online audiobook podcast can be accessed here. |
