The Mary Murphy GMC had quite an interesting history. Here is an excerpt from a Fred Holabird catalog:

The operation was located in Chaffee County in the Chalk Creek Mining District, Colorado. This was the most important mine in the district. It is located on the southwest side of Chrysolite Mountain two miles south of St. Elmo at an elevation of over 10,000 feet. According to legend, a grateful miner named it after the nurse who restored him to health. The mine was discovered in 1879, and a mill was built in 1886. The mine has been worked to a depth of 2,000 feet with seven miles of underground workings, and produced gold, silver, zinc, lead and copper. The whole Murphy family had claims or locations named after them - the Pat Murphy Claim was next to the Mary Murphy and the Murphy Switch was on the Denver 7 South Park Railroad. The first incorporation of the mine was in 1880 on the Pat and Mary Murphy veins. Quarter inch pink rhombs of Rhodochrosite of gem quality were found at the mine.
