Preparing Outside Your Home
Defending your family from home  crimes like invasion and burglary begins outside. You can make your home less likely to be victimized by taking several steps to discourage criminals. Visibility is probably the  criminmals greatest fear. . Good perimeter lighting and unobstructed views of windows and doorways  make the criminals  discovery likely. Clear all bushes so there is a clear view from the road and other homes. Talk to  neighbors about sharing phone numbers to alert each other of suspicus activity.

Motion detector lighting can give a warning
I suggest that some of the exterior lighting be of the motion detector type. Often home invaders will  prowl around the house to locate  people  inside before   planning an attack. The sudden elumination of another light may unnerve the perpetrator and can alert the occupants of a potential risk.
Make sure lawn ornaments are anchored and yard tools are stored properly
Ask A Question
Keep your yard clear. Many times the tools and weapons used in home invasions are items picked up in the owners or a neighbors yard. Large rocks, bird baths and other yard ornaments should be firmly anchored to prevent easy removal.
Garden tools should be stored in locked buildings

In the next section we will be discussing Burglar alarms. It is important to use the yard signs provided by most alarm companies to warn potential ontruders that an alarm is present. I do not encourage using signs  without an alarm. If an attack occurs the alarm will be an important link in your defense.
