Chick flicks...rom coms....Hollywood.....Bollywood......kung fu......mystery - I love watching movies!

Going to the movies, sitting in the dark with my bag of Maltesers watching the trailers and waiting for the film to begin to me is half the experience. The other half is getting lost in the story, empathising with the characters or being scared out of my wits. I honestly couldn't estimate the number of films I have seen, and don't want to try.

As I realised I like girls, it became a lot more fun to watch a romantic comedy with two girls as the leads or a least positive gay characters. Some queer films I recommend are:.

- Tipping the Velvet
- Better Than Chocolate
- If These Walls Could Talk 2
- Love and Other Catastrophes
Below are links to pages I have created for my ultimate favourite movies:

I saw this movie as part of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Film Festival, and laughed my way through it! As the title suggests by saying 'But, I'm a cheerleader' it could end with 'so I can't be lesbian'.

Breaking stereotypes has been a large part of my experience since I came out. The phrase 'but you don't look gay' is something I hear quite often.
Being feminine (what is feminine anyway? It's so subjective) more so than stereotypically "butch" (and again, I use that term lightly) I find people don't take me as being seriously lesbian!!
While there are so many identities and ways of expressing heterosexuality, it appears that you have to be a certain way to be homosexual. I guess it's so you can be identified and therefore labelled.

This movie dismisses the stereotypes people associate with being gay, but not disparagingly. Setting the movie in a "conversion" camp where girls and boys are pointed in their 'true directions' it plays heavily on what is feminine and what is masculine in order to redefine heterosexuality.

The lead characters, my favourite being Graham [Clea Duvall] find their true directions in a hilarious manner, while frighteningly allowing us a view of how some people see homosexuality and how it can be cured.

Irony at its best.

"Fucking Amal" (or 'Show Me Love' as it is known outside of Sweden)is a fairly recent addition to my collection of 'favourites'.

When I was last in Sweden which was January '98 I was dealing with a lot of issues, namely my sexuality.

Seeing this film touched my heart, and also my head. Not just because the main characters are on the path to discovering their sexualities but because it brought back so many memories of my year as an exchange student, and reinforced some impressions I held of Sweden.

If you get the chance to see a copy with subtitles, I would recommend it - even if it is purely for the O'Boy scene at its conclusion, which is just so cute!

I can quote "The Princess Bride" from beginning to end, much to everyone's annoyance as they watch it with me.

I first saw this when I was 11 and I honestly can't count the number of times I have seen it since.

While not at all 'gay', it is worth watching for Robin Wright, who is stunning and its mockery of the standard fairytale!
