I fell pregnant 6 weeks before my 14th birthday. I knew nothing about
pregnancy, but somehow I just knew that I was pregnant. I guess I didn't think
much about it and I was too scared to tell my parents. How many of us haven't
been? When I was 19 weeks gestation, I felt my baby move for the first time. Oh
what an amazing feeling! Five days later my mother started questioning me, and
I finally told her that I was pregnant. What a shock to them especially since
I was half way through the pregnancy!

I had my first scan at 24 weeks. It was amazing to see this child that I was
carrying moving around. I was one of the lucky ones that had a really easy
pregnancy - no morning sickness, little weight gain. I only really started
showing at around 6 months! I breezed through the rest of the pregnancy until
13 days before my son was born. Being so young my liver was unable to cope and
I was put on antihistamines to stop the infernal itching.

My water broke 6:30 am on one Sunday at the end of February 1990, one day
before my fathers 35th birthday. Contractions started at 7am, five minutes
apart. The amazing thing is that they stayed 5 minutes apart for the 4 1/2
hours that I was in labor. My labor was an easy one, I only needed gas to
help me cope. My son was born at 11:32am after only 15 minutes of pushing!

My mother was awarded custody of my son when he was 16 months old. Two months
later when I was 16, unable to cope with the situation I left home to live
with a man that I barely knew. It didn't take long for the cracks to show. But
I married him anyway on my 18th birthday.

I had suffered a miscarriage at 6 weeks, 3 months before the wedding and I was
7 weeks pregnant when we married. Unfortunately at 26 weeks I suffered a major
placental abruption. My daughter Sarah died when she was only 11 minutes old.
We buried our little angel and tried to get on with our lives. I quickly fell
pregnant again but again it was not meant to be, miscarrying at 17 weeks, two
days after Mother's Day.

I fell pregnant again just before Christmas 1995. Again there was a few
problems, but fortunately my daughter was safely born July 1996. She was a
breech baby and had this whopping great bruise down her right thigh
afterwards. I have never seen a bruise go so black before.

When my daughter was 20 months my husband walked out,

leaving us to struggle along as best we could. My son is now 10 and my daughter has just turned 4. My son continues to live
with my parents and I see him most weekends. My daughter lives with me. I am currently holding down 2 jobs and study 2 courses as well. Life can be a
struggle sometimes but we are doing really well. My daughter is no longer
afraid of men and is very outgoing. I am starting to believe that there might
be a great guy out there for me somewhere and one day I will meet him. :)
