- Anne Shirley |
Anne of Green Gables is a story
of an orphan girl who longs to find a kindred spirit that can become
her bosom buddy. Shuffled from one home to another she learns to use
her imagination to escape her troubled surroundings. By accident,
she is adopted by Marilla Cuthbert and her shy brother Matthew
Cuthbert who had been expecting a strong boy to help around the
farm. Anne's indomitable spirit and constant poetic ramblings soon
soften the hearts of those she comes in contact. Marilla tells
Matthew that Anne can stay as long as she is the one who has the
ultimate authority over Anne's training. She admonishes Matthew by
saying even though she may not know much about child rearing as an
old maid she still has more qualifications than an old bachelor.
Anne of Green Gables is written by Lucy Maud Montgomery in 1908. I first saw the movie on a public television channel that was running a telethon to raise money for their station. I was just channel surfing during a commercial when I started watching Anne of Green Gables and I couldn't stop. The movie was so sweet and uplifting, it was a joy to watch. It made me want to crawl inside my television to visit Anne's world. Anyway, I highly recommend this movie to anybody who loves a good story that the whole family can watch. |
