One of the many basenjis we obtained at Lacada was Ronel's Lost Cage At Lacada. Cage came to live with my parents after a lost cage was found in a rest area on I-29. Mac and Ronda McFarland came to visit and stopped at the rest area on their way home. They accidentally left their portable cage at the rest area, and my parents hurried to rescue the cage. Fortunately, some generous worker had picked up the cage and placed it inside a storage room. For their gratitude, Cage came to live at Lacada.
Cage was a very gentle boy who loved people and to show. He really enjoyed having his ears rubbed while in the show ring. In late 2003, Cage went over the Rainbow Bridge. Previous to him leaving us, Cage became ill. We had strip tested, and he came back clear. We took him to the vet and blood gases were completed, but still no signs of Fanconi. The vet believes that a pesticide sprayed near my parent's home when Cage was a puppy could have caused some kind of liver damage. Cage continues to be in our hearts!!
