When Akira Toriyama created Dragonball in 1984, he started off a phenomenon that would grip the anime world by storm, spawn countless movies, two more epic series and become recognized as one of the most popular animes of all time.
At the center of this phenomenon is the story of a young boy, Son Gokou and his quest for the seven magical Dragonballs. These Dragonballs, when combined, summon the powerful wish-granting dragon Shenglong. As the story progresses, Son Gokou meets different characters some of whom become his allies and others his sworn enemies.
Though Akira Toriyama initially conceived Dragonball as an adventure story, the series eventually became more martial arts oriented, and now offers some of the best fighting sequences on primetime television.
