1998 DeFazio Family Updates
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
We spent New Years Eve relaxing at home. Christopher went to bed at 8:00 pm (as usual). We rented "Men in Black" and "Liar, Liar" and watched movies, ate popcorn, and toasted in the New Year with egg nog. New Years Day we went to Guy's uncles house and spent the day with his whole family. The kids had a great time.
Vacation is over and it's time to go back to work and school. "Blah" - I really enjoyed being home with the kids for 2 weeks. I'll have new family pictures at the end of the month but for now here is a recent picture of of three wonderful children.
April 1998- Sorry it's been so long but we've been really busy and I've been very lazy. It has been a great couple of months. Christopher is sooo loveable. His vocabulary has grown immensely. He talks in full sentences and is so polite. He's always saying; yes, please, no, thank you, excuse me.
We had another post placement interview with the social worker. She brought several gadgets and tested his abilities. I'm sure he passed with flying colors. He knew all his shapes and colors, he put 2 puzzles together (twice), he stacked the building blocks, and told the social worker everything he like to eat.
Palm Sunday we went to Grandma and Grandpa DeFazios house. Here is Christopher and here is is with his cousin, Michael. Easter
May 1998 - Mother's Day was very relaxing and enjoyable. Unfortunately we were unable to spend Mother's Day with our Mom's so we spent the day at home with the kids. It was also Guy's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GUY (aka Dad).
Here is a picture of Christopher in a real fire engine (boy was he in his glory) and to the right Christopher riding a horse at his cousin, Lauren's birthday party.
August 1998 - It's been a while since my last update. We're moving right along. Chris is becoming more "grown up". He says he's not a baby, he's a big boy. We spent Father's Day weekend in Greenport in Long Island, NY. We stayed at the Northfork Motel which is right on the LI Sound and also has a pool. We went to the Strawberry Festival (which Christopher still talks about). There were lots of rides. Here he is riding the race cars with Jennifer and swimming in the pool with Guy-Michael
Chris turned 3 years old on June 26th. We had a big party. He got alot of cars and trucks (his absolute favorite toys). Here he is riding his new dump truck. He is still such a lovable kid as you can see here saying goodnight to his cousin Lauren after the party.
Christopher is finally potty trained. All credit goes to my sister Joanne. THANKS!! Here's why.....Guy and I went to Italy on vacation. The kids stayed with my sister (boy she had her hands full). Thanks also goes to our mom who stayed with her to help out. I told Joanne I was using pull ups on Christopher to help along with the training. My sister said "just put him in underwear and eventually he'll stop wetting them". Well, she couldn't have been more right. Within 3 days he was completely trained. (I might consider renting Joanne out....any takers?? - ONLY KIDDING). Joanne, you're the greatest!
Well I gotta go, I'll be back soon (I hope!)
October 1998 - Sorry it's been so long since I've been back. We've been keeping busy. We were on vacation in Wildwood, New Jersey for a week. We even spent some time in Cape May. The kids really enjoy Wildwood. We go to the same place each year. They sort of become an extended family there. We stay at the Brittany Motel. We had a beautiful week - in the 80's most of the week though it did rain 1 or 2 days. At first Christopher was afraid of the ocean. He loved the pool back at the Motel but I guess the ocean was overwhelming. By the end of the week he did manage to jump in the ocean several times. The kids also loved flying their kites. The beach in Wildwood is so big, there is plenty of room for flying kites.
We visited with Guy's Aunt Marie and Uncle Al in Cape May and went to the beach there as well. It was alot of fun.
When we got home it was time for back to school for the older kids. It was rough getting into the routine again (especially homework) but we are managing.
We finally had the chance to meet some other folks in the area that adopted from Russia as well. We were invited to Eglas and Maynard Leistiko's house in Voorhees, NJ where we met their daughter Natalia (18mo.). We also met Jim and Carla Nichols and their son, Joseph (he'll be 3 in December). Both of these families adopted from Rostov-on-don, Russia. Well as you can guess Christopher loved having playmates. They really had a great time. We also had fun sharing stories and pictures. Eglas and Maynard also shared their video. They were fortunate enough to have gone to the Intourist Hotel in Rostov and went to a dinner show. If you go to Rostov be sure to go. It was a great show (in english too.) We're sorry we missed it. Had we known we probably would have gone every night for 2 weeks.
This past weekend we got together with Sharon and Neil Thomas and their son, Kyle (2 1/2). Kyle and Christopher were both born in Shakhty, Russia, though Christopher was moved to the orphange in Novocherkassk when he was 5 months old. The kids had a great time running around outside playing on the swings and with the cars and trucks.
