Ho the Mercury Aussie Capri is a Fun car to own and drive. As the remaining numbers of the "Aussie Capri" dwindles, the car has more and more sporty car fan interest. Mercury marketed the Capri from 1991 thru 1994 model years. All total, about 67,000 Mercury Capris were sold in the USA during the "Aussie Capri" era. I am adding several pictures of the Capri for your viewing. All Capris of this era were convertibles. An optional hardtop was available. 2 basic models were availablein USA, A "NA" version and a "XR2" version. The NA stood for Natual Aspiration for fuel/air. The "XR2" has a turbo super charger. Base models came with a 3 speed automatic or a 5 speed manual transmission. The XR2 was only available with a 5 speed manual tranny. The chassis is basically a Madza 323 with the Madza 1.6 litre engine. The body was designed by an famous Italian design group Ghia. The little Capri design mock-up was first shown at the 1982 International Auto Show. The car was an instant hit. Nicknamed the "little boat" the car was manufactured in Austriala by Ford Austriala. It was he first Export automobile for Ford and Austriala. My Capri is a 1992 XR2 and has been repainted 1998 Mustang Candy Apply Red. Enjoy your ride in the crazy cool lil Merc Capri.. !
