“Children’s Books For Children and Adults”

“Children’s Books For Children and Adults” are formatted on three collections. One is for collage and craft; the other one, a sequenced story about different characters, where children can participate in the story by filling the blank space and choosing new words, while learning their meanings, and also tapping into the idea of phonetics and rhythm, which the world of rhymes is plenty of. In doing so, without modesty, I dare say that I benefit from a background on studies of sounds and phonetics and sense of rhythm, due to my degree in Translation and Interpretation, Dance, Music and Dramatic Arts.
My goal when I write and create drawings for children is to make them interact with my books, rather than only read (or listen), to make it playful and enjoyable.

The series (not serious) books are:

“Filling the Empty Space and Feeling a Joyous Grace” and “A Story-Board” from Phonetics and Rhymes Collection are made for children four to six years old, to fill in the blank line and to learn about phonetics and rhythm. It contains five books, which are:

“A Little Boy Full of Joy”

“Roy’s Life with His Wife”

“Bugs and Mouse Around the House"

“A Very Clever Rabbit with a Very Clever Habit”

“A Lazy Dog and His Lady Frog”

Roy
by Ana Antunes

There was a boy.
His name was Roy.
He had a big nose.
For photos he posed.

Roy
Roy wanted to go into the ocean.
So his mother put him some lotion.
On the sand he made a track.
His mother put more lotion on his back.

Roy
Roy went to the beach.
He saw a rotten peach.
His mother told him not to eat.
But he did, he did it!

Then Roy got sick.
He was feeling so weak.
His stomach ached and he was in pain.
What his mother told him not to do was in vain.

Roy
He stayed in bed the whole week.
He had an idea. The thermometer he picked.
He burned the thermometer and he lied.
He said that he had a fever and sighed:
“I cannot go to school”, he finally proved.
He told that to his mother, and she was moved.
“So, in bed, dear son, you shall stay.
You won’t move until you feel okay.”

Roy
Roy wanted to go to the sea.
The air was good and made him see
that nature made him feel better.
He was indeed very clever!

Roy
But his mother was clever too!
She said, “You are going to school,
A bird told me you are feeling better.
Don’t forget to give your teacher this letter.”

Roy
He was feeling much more energized.
In the letter his mother apologized:
“Dear Teacher, I am so sorry!
Roy was sick with his “tommy”.”

Roy
Roy came back home
And a friend he invited to come.
They played with marble balls.
They enjoyed games of all.

Roy
His mother came from the lake.
Cookies she was going to bake.
She prepared them with much care.
The rest she saved in a Tupperware.

Roy
Many cookies his mother made.
She asked for help to the maid.
Roy ate them all, and also a pancake.
He was not feeling any stomachache.

Roy
When his mother cooked he felt good.
He was then in a wonderful mood.
Roy took a broom behind the door.
He swept happily the kitchen’s floor.

Roy
There was a leak on the floor.
The water came behind the door.
It was Roy taking a bath.
He left behind him a water path.

Roy
Roy went to school every day.
He liked to study and to play.
Now he could add numbers and act.
He liked acting and Mathematic.

Roy
Roy was invited to appear on TV.
He did a commercial of a hot tea.
He did another one eating a can of sweet pea.
If they wanted him to smile, he said, “Gee!”

Roy
One day Roy was caught doing something wrong.
But his sweet mother didn’t punish her son.
Instead she angrily said:
“You made me really mad!”

Roy
After that, Roy felt very bad.
He liked to see his mother glad.
His mother kissed Roy goodnight:
“ Be a good boy, and you will be all right!”

Roy
Roy had a very happy life.
He fell in love and married his wife.
With a happy face he proposed.
And even happier for that photo they posed.

Roy
A little baby boy came so rose
With a round face and a big nose.
“Indeed he will be a very good boy!
I can see that in his nose,” said Roy.

“Sweet like a sunshine ray,
More delicate than a flower,
She opens her heart so gay,
And turns in gold what’s sour.

She wants to be known,
By the love that she transpires,
And see her seeds being sown
And many hearts inspire.”
