WHEN DANCE FELL IN LOVE WITH MUSIC

Tale of Dance and Music

Written and Illustrated

By Ana Antunes

Dance lived in the forest very far away
She had a beautiful body and a strong heart.
She was very flexible and stretched all day.
She moved with anything that surrounded her.

Dance moved her body so free like a dream
She imitated all the animals, even flies and bees.
She floated in the water and in every stream.
And she shook and trembled like leaves from the trees.

She could run and fall from the sky like the rain.
She could fly and jump as high as the birds.
She just couldn’t flow as light and fresh like the wind
Dance jumped and ran but she fell right in the mud.

So Dance tried to catch and squeeze.
A little breath she took and she jumped in a hurricane.
She could not get the wind, not even a breeze.
She observed how the wind touched the windowpane.

Time passed and Dance could not grasp at all
How she could not move as graceful as the wind.
So she became quite blue and she felt so small.
But Music found her, for she could not see him.

Music didn’t have a body, but he had a beautiful soul.
He lived in a gust of wind and he played with the flow.
He was free and light and he could come and go.
And he could penetrate in all things high and low.

Music knew all the secrets of the air
His biggest dream was to have a body and dance.
He could sing and fly, but he could not dare
Do any movement and he asked for a chance.

When Music saw Dance he fell in love
He ordered the wind to stop immediately
Then he asked Dance how she could move
How she could do that so tenderly?

Dance was delighted by his divine voice
Although she could not know where it came from.
She showed Music how she moved as a choice
For she loved the movement and that’s how she had grown.

She danced just like a cat, and like a bird
She flew as if it was her first flight out of the nest.
She imitated a leaf falling from the tree and heard
Music applauding and so excited he vibrated at last.

Music screamed excited and so touched
He considered the Art of Dance like a fairy tale.
Music asked Dance why she was so sad. She sighed.
He could not understand why Dance thought she failed.

So Dance told Music the story of her disgust
That she tried so hard to move freely like the wind.
She ran and fell, and finally said: “Fly I must!”
Dance wished she could do the movement of the unseen.

Music then came up with an idea to share.
He looked at Dance, and they made a deal:
While he taught Dance the secrets of the air
Dance would move and take his soul for real.

So Music came as a gentle breeze and without fear
Dance allowed him to enter in her heart so that he could thrive.
But Music subtly immersed deep inside the holes of her ears.
And it was there that he spent the rest of their lives.

Music and Dance now have body and soul.
Music can Dance and Dance can dream of flying too.
All they dreamed of came true, as it was their goal
That all things live in harmony the way they do.

The source of all ideas of movement
In Dance and Music are the same.
So they ought to walk together hand in hand
Creating possibilities and new themes.

It is time to face the music
And learn to listen to the whispers of the air
This way we can move within the cosmic
In a starry enriched life so full of flair.
