Java Joe Barbecue Sauce

 

Ingredients:

2 tbsp vegetable oil

1 yellow onion, diced

2 tbsp garlic, minced

¼ cup chili powder

1 tbsp jalapeno, minced (or to taste)

1 cup tomato paste

1 cup brewed coffee

1 cup Worcestershire sauce         

½ cup apple cider vinegar

½ cup lightly packed brown sugar

½ cup apple cider or apple juice

Directions:

Heat the vegetable oil in a heavy saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until translucent, about 3 minutes. Add the chili powder and jalapeno, sauté for 1 minute. Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes.

Add all the remaining ingredients and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10-15 minutes. Can be used immediately, or let cooled to room temperature before storing in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
