Throughout the years, Lord William and I have attended many Medieval feasts complete with multiple repasts, singing for our supper, and serving wenches endowed with huge... bowls of rose scented water to wash your hands in after the meal. We have witnessed wedding feasts and handfasting celebrations.

In the Kitchens you will find some menu selections and a link to tasty recipes with a Medieval and Renaissance flavor, which we have found to be successful for a feast or peasant picnic. There are also some decoration suggestions for your feast table and picnic area to give the appropriate Medieval/Renaissance feel.

The main room was bedecked with a large hand-painted banner. There were floor length tabble coverings in a medieval tapestry pattern. The centerpiece was made of fresh fruits and candles floating among evergreens. Each place was set with pewter dishes and goblets of pewter or clay. Next to each place was a spoon and eating dagger. There were also wooden plates with whole loaves of bread and dishes filled with honey and dipping mustard and a carved wooden salt cellar. as the guests dined on game hens, pastries, cheeses and other dishes, the sound of medieval instruments floated in the air, played by unseen musicians. Our Twelth night feast was wonderful and it was such a unique way to end the Yuletide season.
In 2003, we have continued a centuries old tradition... the celebration of a feast on Twelth Night!
That's right...fermented bee-barf! If you have never had the pleasure, mead comes in a variety of types from very sweet to dry, and is often blended with fruit wines in different percentages to create cherry mead, blackberry mead, etc... For a sweet mead, try Chaucers. For a blend, try one of the great meads at Earl Estates (we love their Strawberry mead). Honeyrun has several meads that are sulfite-free. No matter what you prefer, there is a suitable mead for almost every wine lover.
