CONVERT TO D C POWER . This is information on how to convert a Humphreys gas light to dc power. Likely you could also convert it to ac power using the same procedure as below. This is compliments of Len. Click the images for larger view. CERAMIC PIECE INSIDE LIGHT ![]() I just went to an auto parts store and bought a 12 volt bulb & socket and a switch. On the lamp I removed the LP parts from the lamp. There's a ceramic piece that unscrews from the lamp, where the mantle is tied onto that is removed. That exposes a tube that the wires can run through. WIRES RAN INSIDE OF LIGHT ![]() Run the wires through the tube and use silicone to fasten the socket to the lamp (I have tested the silicone, it can take the heat). WIRES RAN TO THE SWITCH ![]() The switch will fit into the lamp where the control knob was. Connect the hot wire on the lamp to a terminal on the switch and another wire to the other terminal on the switch. Use the original lamp mounts to secure the lamp to the wall, hook the wires to a 12 volt source and your done. HUMPHREYS GAS LIGHT NOW 12 V DC ![]() Here is the finished light converted to 12 v dc. Thanks Len for this info and pictures; great job ! I agree with Len, I'd prefer this light on a 12 v dc source rather then propane. I think this looks nice and the appropriate bulb will give you some semblence of the actual gas light burning. You can get flicker type bulbs and I wonder what they would look like in this application? ^ top of page ^ Last Edited: 5. 28. 2010 Web page created by Larry Bush: May 28. 2010 Serro Scotty ~ Vintage Campers © All Rights Reserved |
