Alis versus The Darkforce - Phantasy Star, SMS.

Introduction

My Genesis spent several years in storage; I rediscovered that I owned one during the yearly cleaning of '99.  I started playing Phantasy Star II again, and recognized that it was, in my opinion, still by far the best video-RPG that was ever produced, and I've played no small volume of RPGs.  PS II is one of the granddaddys of the RPG genre, and to this day has the ability to lure me into long hours of playing...

Here's a list of the other Action/RPGs I've played to higher than necessary levels and found memorable, just to provide a contrast with which I compare Phantasy Star II, presented in order of preference, by console:

 NES  SMS  SNES  Genesis  Gameboy
Metal Gear  Zillion  7th Saga  Phantasy Star II  Zelda
Faxanadu  Aztec Adventure  Chrono Trigger  Phantasy Star IV  Final Fantasy Adventure
Final Fantasy I    Shadowrun  Sword of Vermillion  Metroid 3
Dragon Warrior I    Final Fantasy V    Final Fantasy Legend II
 Blastermaster    Robotrek
 Zelda    Blackthorne
 Metroid    Final Fantasy II
 Link    Super Metroid    PC
Battle of Olympus    Zelda 3    Diablo II: LoD
Deja Vu    Paladin's Quest    Baldur's Gate II: ToB
Shadowgate    Illusion of Gaia    Final Fantasy VII
     Secret of Mana    Diablo I
*Other big name titles which happen to be absent I either disliked or didn't play (e.g., I didn't like FF III, PS III, Breath of Fire(s), Lufia(s), Ogre Battle(s), etc.)

When I started playing Phantasy Star II again, I looked it up on the net, to find some data about techniques; in doing so, I found the Phantasy Star II webring.  There was a good amount of quality material already done by the webring members, so I began considering what I could contribute, specifically on PS II,  that would be unique -- the result is this site, Trinixx's Dezo: A Pragmatic Approach to Phantasy Star II.  Herein you will find what I didn't elsewhere; granted, there are many walkthroughs, but what I didn't come across were commentaries on how people actually played the game.  Further, most of the sites in the ring are dedicated to Phantasy Star IV, and although I played that game to level 85, (Wren, 79; Chaz, 85; Rika, 91; Hahn, 82; Rune, 76) I don't remember as much about it.  I guess that says a bit about PSII's longevity.

The majority of the content of this site therefore discusses issues such as my assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of each major character, which character combinations works best for what portion of the game or given situation, what equipment I gave to whom, how I used it, where I went to accumulate experience at what stage of the game, a few tricks I picked up, etc.  Basically, this site documents my personal "PSII Trade Secrets."(™)  I hope this proves useful to the various webrings, specifically to ye Phantasy Star II  olde-timers looking for help.
