Eating disorders are, in many people's eyes, another form of SI. Depending on your point of view, they may even be a more serious form than cutting, or burning, etc. NOTHING ON THIS PAGE IS PRO-ED! If it seems that way, please tell me. I'll delete anything that is remotely pro-ana or pro-ed. I'm still not entirely sure what all is going to be on this page, so it's majorly under contruction. Email me if you have anything to add! I will give you credit, I promise!
Eating Disorders

If you cannot see two frames on your screen (a Navigation part and this part), click here to connect them. It will open to a new page, but will show the ENTIRE site.
~Eating disorders, like other forms of SI, are generally not for attention. Granted, there are a few exceptions, but there are expections to every rule.
~No one can MAKE themselves have an ED. No one just wakes up on morning and thinks, "You know what? I need to drop a few pounds, so I'm going to become anorexic." They can think that, but it won't happen. YOU CANNOT FORCE YOURSELF TO HAVE AN ED, AND YOU SHOULD NOT TRY!!!
~The two most commonly known ED's are probably anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, more commonly known as anorexia or bulimia. Or... simply known as ana or mia.
~Anorexia is when the person eats as little food as possibly, sometimes starving themselves for days at a time. Anorexics tend to be very, very skinny, and very fragile-looking. Some physical signs of anorexia are odd hair growth (the body is fighting to keep itself warm, contrasting the loss of weight and any body fat), fine and/or brittle hair, and of course, sudden and constant weight loss.
~Bulimia is when the person purges after they eat, often eating a lot with the intention of throwing it all back up. A big sign of a bulimic is when the person hurries to the bathroom immediately (or soon after) eating. Another big sign is when tehre is excessive tooth decay, especially on the back of the teeth or gums, which is caused from the stomach acids. Bulimics don't always lose a lot of weight; some bulimics just stay at a constant weight.
ED FACTS
WHAT TO DO IF YOU THINK SOMEONE HAS AN ED
~Just because someone has the signs of an ED does not mean that they DO have it.  Sometime, they may just be on a diet. Of course, you can't just assume that- assume the worst, and talk to the person about it.
~DO NOT TEASE THEM ABOUT THEIR 'DIET', OR MAKE EXCESSIVE COMMENTS ABOUT IT! Don't talk to other people about it either, unless they are close to the person and you KNOW you can trust them.
~Ask them about it. Don't assume they're lying if they say no, but don't assume they're telling the truth. Pay close attention to them, and then do what you think is right. If you don't think they are, don't tell. But if you strongly suspect they are, use your best judgement, and do whatever you think is right. Sometimes, that may not mean that you need to tell, but it may mean that you should. DO WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT!
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE AN ED
~Get help! Talk to someone you can trust about it. (email me if you need to talk)
~try to stop- ed's can kill you, but that's not the worst that can happen to you. Do you want to have children? Not with an ED- having an ED (I think it's both anorexia and bulimia, but I'm not sure) can cause you to NEVER be able to have children. (This may be just the girls, but again, I'm not sure.)
~If you have been going to any pro-ed sites, STOP!
~Admit that you have a problem. Being able to admit, even to yourself, "I have an eating disorder" can help you tremendously.
~If you don't feel you can talk to anyone about it (as in, anyone you know personally), call an ED hotline. (There may be one or two on my
Immediate Help page- if not, just search for one on any search engine.)
~Try to admit to OTHERS that you have an ED. Saying "I have an eating
problem" is a start, but try to tell someone that you're close to "I have an eating disorder." This doesn't nesasarily mean that you have to go tell the world, but being able to tell others that you have an ED makes it more real that you actually do have a SERIOUS PROBLEM. It helps!!
COMMENTS FROM STACE:
Yes, I realize that I am somewhat hypocritical by having this page up. But since I'm technically recovering right now (as in, putting food in my stomach and keeping it there), its okay. ED's are one of the top 4 subjects that I'm the most passionate about (tied for 2nd with poetry, and cutting & other mental disorders, right after Christianity), so don't bother trying to argue with me about this, you won't win (right Tig?). of course if you do want to talk to me about this, email me.
I really believe, with all of my heart, that if you have an ED you CAN STOP! It's just a matter of getting help. Please, if you have an ED, GET HELP!
