Comments: I am in the beginning stages of forming a "viable" and strong thesis for an action research paper. Currently I am interning at a private school that has very little african american representation. Diversity as a whole is lacking here and they are very oncerned about it as well. I desperately need qualitative studies thaat have been done on African American students as learners, particularly the males. Today I found out that the african american children that are attending this school all have difficult academically, specifically with reading and writing. Comments: I really like your web site. I am Caucasion, but I tutor several children, primarily young African-American males. I just happen to volunteer in a Title 1 school. These kids really need a book list that lets them read about their heritage, and I really th nk your list will help. Also, there is a book called "The Man Who Loved Clowns", by an author whose name I can't recall at the moment, about a 30 yo man who is mentally handicapped and befriended by his niece. I believe the young girl is African American. Even if they aren't, it is still a fabulous book for kids to read. Keep up the super work. Michelle P.S.
