Since relocating to Texas USA I have been involved in malamute rescue. I met Dan & Lynne Anderson on my second trip to the states in 2001. I got to meet all there wonderful mals and talk to them about Mal rescue. It was then I decided that when I moved to the states I would love to be involved in helping abused and neglected Mals.
Shortly after I arrived in Texas to live I contacted Dan & Lynne to let then know I was here. It was several weeks later they called me and asked if I would be willing to become a foster mom to an abused mal bitch from Austin named Kookie. I agreed and went to Austin to pick Kookie up. On seeing Kookie for the first time I couldn't believe my eyes this poor girl was only 18 months old, had already had a litter of puppies and was so thin I wasn't sure what I had got myself into. I couldnt't believe someone could to this to a sweet little girl like Kookie. She was frightened, very thin (43 pounds) and heartworm positive.
I bought Kookie home and she lived in the house with me for the first 2 weeks. She is a wonderful house dog. Along with Kookie in the house was my mal bitch Kianah (Aust Ch Shuyak Kilik Kianah imp Aust), Dylan a miniature pinscher and Stephanie a chihuahua. Kookie got on well with all the dogs in the house. She has become very attached to me and to see Kookie now you can hardly believe she is the same dog I picked up from Austin 4 months previous. Kookie has been spayed and has been treated for her heartworm. While at the vets Kookie was in contact with some cats I am happy to say she wasn't interested in the cats, she walked past the cats without even a sideways glace one cat being not a foot away from her.
Kookie has become a confident little bitch and will make someone a great house dog. She still has a long way to go, she needs some obedience training and alot more love. Kookie now weighs a healthy 54 pounds, she is a small bitch standing about 21 inches.
Thanks to Dan & Lynne Anderson for introducing me to being a foster mom and to Lynn McConnell for saving Kookie from the Austin Shelter.
