Moondancer was my first My Little Pony. My grandmother sent her from Minnesota for either my birthday or Christmas, (my birthday, I think), which turned out to be lucky since my mother had vowed she would never buy a toy with such "moony eyes". (She told me this just last year . . . don't ask me what she meant by "moony eyes".)

Anyway, I pulled away the wrapping paper and let out a squeal of delight--there was a beautiful white unicorn with deep red hair! To this day, I can remember which direction Moondancer faced in her package (left) and where her accessories were (her comb and ribbon were also to the left, under her nose.) And I remember trying to pry the plastic bubble up with my fingernails. (To be specific, I remember how much it hurt.) Someone (either my mom or sisters) got a pair of scissors and helped cut Moondancer out of the package.

I was always impressed by Moondancer's backcard story--a pony who could put things into hibernation and call up the West Wind? Wow! In fact, Moondancer's backcard led to the purchase of Cotton Candy.

Later, when I got more ponies, Moondancer became the queen of my "herd". She was old and wise, a very calm pony. Ironically, part of the reason she was queen was because I could put the pony "crown" (actually a little ring from a quarter vending machine) over her horn so it would stay on her head. After all, she was my only unicorn until I got Fizzy! ^_~ But somehow I'm sure she would've ended up being queen anyway . . .

I always craved the "Pony Royal" Ponywear outfit for the gorgeous queen. But one year at Christmas I got a surprise--one of my gifts contained a beautiful handmade pony cape that looked just like the one in the brochures! One of my sisters had made it! I was overjoyed! A few months ago, I got the "official" cape, but it is still a pale shadow of the soft handmade version, lined with fake fur, lace, and a row of pearly beads.

I loved all the ponies from this year! They were so simple yet beautiful! No frills, no gimmicks. And I still think Moondancer is the most beautiful pony I've ever seen. Her silky red hair (with a purple streak in the mane, of course) and glittery symbol are stunning. Apparently I wasn't the only one who liked Moondancer--she appears frequently on the second-hand market. That doesn't make me value her any less, though. ^_^

No doubt about it, Moondancer is my number one favorite. Is it any wonder I decided to use her name as my pseudonym when I got online? When I realized other people had also chosen the name, I quickly started referring to myself as "Lady Moondancer" so people could tell the difference . . . but in my heart, that white unicorn is always just "Moondancer".
