Dibble and Nibbles were, I think, the last baby ponies I ever got. Dibbles was the orange newborn and Nibbles was the pink one. I remember trying to decide which set of twins to get. I was tempted by Rattles and Tattles, Jangles and Tangles, and Milkweed and Tumbleweed, but in the end I got the baby pegasi so that they could be Skydancer's children--yes, the same reason I got Baby Bouncy. And again, it didn't quite work out. Dibbles and Nibbles seemed even less likely to be the offspring of Skydancer than Baby Bouncy. And thus the newborns joined the ranks of the orphaned babies.
Cute as the twins were, I didn't really think they were an improvement over the "normal" baby molds. They looked far too chubby and their eyes were HUGE! They were so cute that looking at them was almost the equivalent of eating so many sweets that you get sick--too much of a good thing.
Just as my "baby" ponies weren't really babies, my newborn twins weren't actually newborns. I would say they acted like four of five year-olds instead. (However, they still never said "Hewwo".) And boy were they annoying! They followed the baby ponies everywhere, whining to go on adventures. If the baby ponies took them along, the newborns were continually slowing down the babies, limited by their clumsy youthfulness, and the excursion would usually end with the newborns getting a minor scrape and run home weeping. Then the adults would upbraid the babies for "taking the newborns into danger". But if the babies didn't take the newborns along, they would run crying to the adult ponies, who would scold the babies for being so "inconsiderate".
Needless to say, the baby ponies detested the newborn ponies (who they were often forced to babysit) and avoided them as much as possible if they were planning an adventure. If they did run into the two tiny pegasi, Baby Moondancer would often tell the newborns that they were all going to play hide-and-seek. "You two hide and we'll all look for you," she'd say. "And if we can't find you in twenty minutes, you win!" Then the babies would all sneak away desparately as the twins hid.
Personality-wise, Dibbles was louder, more demanding (and more annoying) twin. She was tended to interrupt her quieter twin, Nibbles. Nibbles was slightly shier and was full of youthful excitement. I took good care of the twins; Dibble's hair never faded and both twins retained their original curl right up to the Garage Sale of Doom. (Their bassinet was also lost, doubling the blow.)
A few other random notes--I really wanted those snail rockers that came with the other twins. I loved the drawing-style from the newborns' box. And speaking of the artwork . . . Dibbles and Nibbles were the only two twins whose symbols weren't shown on the backcard! (Check the picture on this page and see for yourself.) Perhaps they hadn't decided what the symbol should be when they finished the artwork? And why do they have swan symbols? What does that have to do with their names? Dibbles and Nibbles--swans? Huh? I've heard that the twins were known as "Dimples and Ruffles" in Finland. That's cuter than the US names, but again--what does that have to do swans?
