Cuddles
Name: Cuddles (Non-BBE) and the Baby Buggy
Type: Baby Pony
Appearance: Blue baby pony with pink hair, symbol of a rattle. Three white freckles on his nose.
Accessories: A lavender teddy bear brush, a bottle, a purple and white rattle, a box of diapers, a pink bonnet, a pink blanket, white baby buggy, pink umbrella, and two pieces of lace.
Received: 1984 or 1985
Original pony, or replacement? Original! YAY!
I think I got Cuddles and the Baby Buggy for Christmas. I immediately decided that Cuddles was male even though he came with the frilly baby buggy. I think his coloring and freckles influenced that.
Cuddles was a stubborn baby pony who often found objections to Baby Moondancer's schemes. In spite of Cuddles' cautious nature, Baby Moondancer was usually able to get him to go along with her plans by saying "You aren't afraid, are you Cuddles?" Cuddles always jumped at a chance to prove that he was brave . . . maybe because he was somewhat smaller than the other babies. Once Baby Moondancer even convinced Cuddles to play the part of a prince in a little play. (Baby Moondancer was the princess.) She found a little green vest (from a small doll) and a tiny sword for him to wear. He was adorable! Although he was quite embarrassed about the play, the adult ponies loved it.
Cuddles came with the frilly baby buggy, which has a history of its own with my ponies. Sometimes it was just a baby buggy to be nosed along by the adult ponies . . . but SOMETIMES it was the chariot of Barbie, Tyrant Queen! (I would just take the umbrella out of the buggy and put Barbie in it.) Barbie needed someone to pull her chariot, which led her to kidnap the ponies time and time again with elaborate net traps, cages, or lassos.
Getting back to Cuddles--he was a fairly even-headed pony, and also pretty sarcastic. He didn't get along at all with Baby Lickety-Split, and whenever Baby Heart Throb whined or sniveled (which was often), he would say "Just like a stupid girl". Of course, Baby Moondancer couldn't abide that and would usually push Cuddles into a mud puddle and then say "Oh dear! You seem to have been pushed into a mud puddle by a girl, Cuddles!" in a mocking tone of voice. After a while, Cuddles modified the phrase to "Don't be such a sissy, Heart Throb!"
One final note--Cuddles is the baby pony who would be most disgusted if another baby ever said "Hewwo" in his presence.
