Cotton Candy was my second MLP (the first being Moondancer.) I got her for one very simple reason: she was in Moondancer's backcard story. Pretty funny reason to get a pony, huh? I can't remember if I actually chose her out or told my mom I wanted her, but I do remember agonizing over whether I should try to get Twilight (who was also in Moondancer's backcard story) or Cotton Candy. Much as I love unicorns, I decided on Cotton Candy--because she got put into hibernation in Moondancer's story, whereas Twilight only woke Moondancer up. (The backcards and brochures of my ponies almost always affected who would join the herd . . .)
So somehow or other I got Cotton Candy (the concave version who came out with Moondancer and Bubbles and all). The all-pink pony bounced back and forth from being a very shy pony (inspired by the pose) or a boisterous, energetic pony (inspired by Moondancer's backcard). I usually thought she was very old and Moondancer's good friend (which is odd, since Moondancer puts Cotton Candy into hibernation on her backcard.) I never did figure out what her symbol is, but it doesn't look anything like cotton candy. Still, the symbol suits her.
Cotton Candy is generally thought to be the most common pony, and yet I've only found one (besides my own) in my entire lifetime. Odd! Ironically, Cotton Candy was saved from "the Garage Sale of Doom" because I'd read in a pony brochure that she was a Collector Pony and I hoped she'd be valuable one day. Too bad I didn't save those flutters with wings . . . but I'm glad at least Cotton Candy escaped!
